Digital City?
Monday, November 27th, 2006I had a strange dream last night. Its so vivid that I must write it down before I forget. So here goes:
In the distant future, the world will be totally destroyed. But years before that, scientists had predicted that day and searched for possible survival options. They’ve found out that the world is made up of a few different dimensions. One of them is the spiritual dimension. Through trials and errors, they realise that majority of the populations does not have strong enough spirits to survive in that dimension.
Finally, they discovered that the digital dimension is the only one that is suitable for human beings. In the old dimension, everything is made up of molecules and atoms. But this digital dimension is made of pixels. Because humans are already very familiar with technology, computers and pixels, we are able to adapt to the new environment easily.
In my dream, billions of people made their transitions into this dimension, converting their wealth and properties into pixels. I was one of them. I wander into the new city. The buildings are still under constructions. I meet familiar people on the street. There’s an open day gathering at a construction site where they are building apartments for each of us. There were food fair, fun fair, entertainment and people everywhere. I can even see people handing out leaflets. I walked to the very end and saw a movie showing on a wall. No need for a screen or projectors. Any surface can be lcd screen.
Everyone seems quite happy to be there. However, there are problems. As I go from one place to another, the time changes quite drastically. I can walk out of a room at 7.30am and enters another at 5.30am. Another problem is that nature is not like how it used to be. I was crossing a bridge to get to another building when I realise that because the bridge is so high up it not only touches the cloud but clouds are stuck onto it. When I walk on it, the clouds feel sticky & muddy under my feet.
But the biggest problem is that we started to halucinate. We don’t have a sense of real existance. I met an aging professor with his pretty young wife one day looking quite happy together and the next day, I was told the professor left her for an equally old man with a limp. People started to behave really weird. Maybe, we’re still new to this place.
